New to Smart Quitter? Read this first!

So you managed to find this corner of the internet, and signed up to our forum? Great job, and welcome!

This is just a quick introduction post to lay out the first things you should consider after joining.

First, some rules

  1. Be open, but protect your identity: The Smart Quitter Forum is all about quitting your addictions and we’re all pretty open when it comes to advice and discussion around our quit journey’s. However the world at large is judgemental and unpredictable, so we recommend that all of our members do not share personally identifying information about themselves on the forum as it’s just impossible to tell how that information could be used against you in future (think about scenarios like a potential employer searching for your name and a thread on this forum popping up). We recommend just being smart with the details you share. You can use first names and mention the city you live in, for example, but keep your family name/surname and any stories that might easily reveal who you are private. The exception to this rule is in categories and groups that are not accessible to the general public, and these are marked as such. Be smart, keep personally identifying information private!
  2. Threats, insults and ad hominem attacks will not be tolerated: everyone is here to improve their lives, and there’s plenty of people willing to throw mud at others because whether it’s justified or not. This isn’t the place for that, and we (admins) will shut down discussions that go this way quickly. Keep discussions productive.
  3. Participate: The Smart Quitters community works best when we are all helping each other, and providing as much value as we receive. So try and post regularly, don’t just lurk, and join in discussions where it makes sense. Don’t be scared, we won’t bite!

Good first Steps:

  • Start a thread in the Introductions section: we recommend a simple post stating who you are, a line or two telling us your story, and a statement about what your goal or goals are (e.g. “I have decided that I’ve had enough of vaping and I want to quit for good after trying and failing 3 times previously”). Have a read through 3-5 intro threads of others as well, so you can see that you’re not alone in your quitting journey, and then say hello.
  • Try the Smart Quitter 7 Day Challenge: This is the easiest way to quit vaping, porn or alcohol in 7 days. Sign up if you haven’t already, it’s completely free and works very well for our members.
  • Start your own Quit Journal: a quit journal where you log your progress regularly is an extremely effective accountability tool. Start your own Quit Journal ASAP!
